Using a mix of storytelling performance and interactive activities, Russell teaches students to write and perform stories of their own!

Workshops are 1 hour, but can be shortened or lengthened as needed.

Public Speaking 101
Class presentations. Reading aloud. Telling stories. Kids have to speak in front of others A LOT! This workshop helps them do it with confidence. Through simple folktales and fun vocal exercises, kids learn the three keys to an expressive voice: pitch, pace, and power.
6-Step Stories
Thousands of amazing folktales, fairy tales, and short stories follow the same simple pattern. We’ll dive into the six steps of this pattern so students can understand story structure and more easily plan their own tales to write and tell!
Twist That Tale!
Can’t think of a story idea? Having trouble brainstorming? Not anymore! We’ll look at how to take well-known folktales, put ’em in a blender, and come out with a whole new original story!
assembly performances
Whether it’s a library, gym, auditorium, or grassy field, any place can be a space for stories! Assemblies/multi-class performances can be tailored to a particular season, topic, or theme, and lengths of programs are flexible.

residencies
Book Russell for weekly sessions over a 4-6 week period. Students will embark on a journey from listening to stories, to learning a story of their own, rehearsing it, and performing it in front of others!
